Rockford Hand Picked Riesling, Eden Valley, Australia
1 in stock
The Eden Valley, high in the Barossa Ranges, is punctuated by ancient Red Gums. The Rockford Riesling vineyards growing in this shallow, rocky soil produce fine flavoured wines with a mineral purity that comes from the vine roots pushing through cracks in submerged rock in search of water and scarce nutrient. Rockford release this wine with the complexity, palate weight and softness that can only come from holding it in their cellar for a year or two before release.
Rockford Wines was established in 1984 when it was founded by Robert O’Callaghan. The winery is a family-owned company using traditional Barossa grape varieties, with some vines dating back to the 1880s. Much of the winery equipment also dates back over 100 years. Arguably one of the leading producers from the Barossa Valley in Australia, Rockford is steeped in history matched by their legendary wines. Truly iconic in their reputation, terroir driven, family owned, expressive in their vision and above all utterly delicious.
5 Star Winery – Halliday Wine Companion
“Rockford can only be described as an icon, no matter how overused that word may be. It has a devoted band of customers who buy most of the wine through the cellar door or mail order (Rocky O’Callaghan’s entrancing annual newsletter is like no other). Some wine is sold through restaurants, and there are two retailers in Sydney, and one each in Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Whether they will have the Basket Press Shiraz available is another matter; it is as scarce as Henschke Hill of Grace (but less expensive).” – James Halliday
