It’s the final month of winter in St Kilda and we’ve come prepared. This list of calendar highlights carries no risk of being rained out… unless of course, you’re into that sort of thing (see number 3). Bunker down or rug up and venture out, there is something for every St Kilda lover out there.
Here are our top picks of things to do in St Kilda this month.
1. Stan Walker at Prince Bandroom
Friday 2 August 2019
After a five-year absence and surviving a life-threatening illness, Stan Walker returns to Australia – healthy, happy, strong and with new music coming to Prince Bandroom on Sunday 18 Aug. Stan’s new EP FAITH HOPE LOVE is a particularly special and poignant release. This 5 track EP is dedicated to the victims of the Christchurch shooting and is Stan’s way of offering support to those affected.
2. Terracotta Warriors & Cai Guo-Qiang at NGV
Ends Sunday 13 October 2019
A dual presentation of Chinese art and culture past and present. Until 13th October, the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series at the National Gallery of Victoria presents China’s ancient Terracotta Warriors alongside an exhibition of new works by one of the world’s most exciting contemporary artists, Cai Guo-Qiang.
For a limited time you can pair this art history buff’s dream day out with a 2-night staycation at The Prince Hotel.
Friday 9 August to Sunday 29 September 2019
It’s captivated half a million adventurers worldwide and now Random International’s monumental artwork, Rain Room, will make its Southern Hemisphere debut on The Prince Hotel’s rooftop in August.
A 100 square metre field of continuous rainfall, Rain Room is a responsive environment engaging all the senses, allowing you to be fully immersed in the rain without actually getting wet.
4. The Beatles’ Abbey Road Live at The Palais Theatre
Friday 15 August 2019
To celebrate Abbey Road’s 50th anniversary, some of Australia’s most respected musicians and members of iconic groups, collectively known as ARC — Kram (SPIDERBAIT), Mark Wilson (JET), Davey Lane (YOU AM I) and Darren Middleton (POWDERFINGER) — will faithfully and lovingly bring The Beatles’ most audacious creation to life. Performing the entire Abbey Road album from start to finish, followed by a set of hits spanning the breadth of The Beatles’ career, this is a must-see for all Beatles fans (i.e. everyone).
5. The Block is back on Channel Nine
Premieres Sunday 4 August 2019
It’s time to mark your calendars and prepare a comfy spot on-couch because Channel Nine has just announced The Block will return on Sunday 4 August. Now in its 15th season, The Block contestants take on the mammoth challenge of renovating the neglected Oslo Hotel, just around the corner from us in St Kilda. Keep your eyes peeled as you’re guaranteed to see Scotty and Shelley rock up at The Prince a couple of times throughout the season.
